Comparisons
As Bush slowly walks to the podium, this allows me to reflect on how this moment compares to the opening of Parliament. I'm not sure how it was in the days of Washington and Adams, but this seems a bit closer to the British model than perhaps our Founders would have liked, though obviously not nearly the same level of pomp. But such is our ever-growing magisterial presidency.
